About Water Resistance:
The condition of the gaskets (back, crown and pushers), crystal, setting crown and case can adversley affect the water resistance of your watch. If you swim regularly with your watch, these items should be checked by a watchmaker at least 1-2 times a year.
The crown and pushers are most vulnerable to leaks. Watches with a "screw down" crown provide the best protection.
Tiny cracks and chips in the crystal can cause leaks which can damage the dial, hands and more. At the frist sign of condensation or fogging under the crystal, have your watch serviced immediately.
Leaks in the back of the watch are usually caused by missing or worn gaskets. Always have your battery replaced by a watchmaker to ensure that worn gaskets are properly replaced. Avoid discount battery places as they pay little attention to worn gaskets. In general, watches with a srew down back or that have screws provide better protection.
Hot Tubs / Sauna / HOT Bath or Shower:
NEVER EVER WEAR YOUR WATCH IN A HOT TUB OR ANYTHING WITH HOT WATER! The extreme heat will likely ruin your watch!
Water Resistance General Guidelines:
Always refer to your owners manual for water resistance useage and maintenance. The water resistance of your watch should be marked on the case back.
"Water Resistant" or 30 meters (100 ft) /3 ATM /3 BAR
Accidental splashes only, don't submerge. 50 meters (165 ft) / 5 ATM / 5 BAR
Showering or Swimming in shallow water.
100 meters (330 ft) / 10 ATM / 10 BAR
Swimming and Snorkeling.
150 meters (500 ft) / 15 ATM / 15 BAR
Scuba Diving.
200 meters (660 ft) / 20 ATM / 20 BAR
